How to export bookmarks from Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, and Brave

An HTML bookmark export gives you a portable copy of your saved links and folder structure. You can use it as a backup, move it to another browser, or import it into a dedicated bookmark manager. The steps below were checked against documentation from each browser maker rather than copied from third-party tutorials.

Before you export

• Use a desktop browser; mobile versions usually rely on account sync instead.
• Remove obviously sensitive bookmarks before sharing an export file.
• Store the file somewhere private and give it a date, such as bookmarks-2026-07-13.html.
• Keep the original file until you verify that the import succeeded.

Export bookmarks from Google Chrome

1. Open Chrome on your computer.
2. Select the three-dot menu, then Bookmarks and lists and Bookmark Manager.
3. In Bookmark Manager, open the three-dot menu.
4. Select Export bookmarks and save the HTML file.

Export favorites from Microsoft Edge

1. Open Edge and open Favorites.
2. Select the three-dot menu in the Favorites panel, then Open favorites page or Manage favorites.
3. Open the three-dot menu on that page and select Export favorites.
4. Choose a private location for the HTML file.

Edge calls bookmarks “favorites.” Microsoft confirms that Edge accepts the standard Favorites or bookmarks HTML format when importing.

Export bookmarks from Mozilla Firefox

1. Open the Firefox menu and select Bookmarks, then Manage bookmarks.
2. In the Library window, select Import and Backup.
3. Select Export Bookmarks to HTML.
4. Name and save the file.

Export bookmarks from Brave

Export bookmarks from Safari on Mac

1. Open Safari.
2. Choose File, then Export Browsing Data to File.
3. Select bookmarks and the Safari profile or profiles you want to export.
4. Select Download, name the export, and save it.

Current Safari versions can export selected browsing data as a ZIP archive. Apple warns that the exported data is not encrypted, so delete the archive after importing it if you do not need the backup.

What to do after exporting

Check that the file or archive exists before changing browsers or deleting anything. Import it into the destination, compare folder and bookmark counts where possible, and open a sample of links. Keep one dated backup until you are confident the migration is complete.

Import or transfer your exported bookmarks

A standard bookmark HTML file can usually move between Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Brave. Open the destination browser's bookmark manager, choose its import command, and select the HTML file. Safari exports may arrive in a ZIP archive; extract it first and use the bookmark HTML file if one is included.
